Created and taught an introductory level class intended to bring more meaning to any photographic practice. Through creative writing exercises students were encouraged to explore how their own personal histories and experiences affect the way they interpret and see the world. The course focused on concept development, explained how to work with intent, and how to manipulate the aesthetic qualities of the photographic medium in order to express emotions. The course additionally demonstrated the cathartic potential of using the camera for self-expression and invited students to engage in the mindful practice of slowing and observing their surroundings in novel ways while hiking in the natural forest setting of the cascades.

Established and grew photography based art-therapy program dedicated to serving underprivileged and at-risk teens, resulting in students acquiring positive coping skills and reducing negative coping mechanisms such as self-harm. More broadly, the program increased diversity in the media landscape by targeting populations statistically and historically underrepresented within the field of photography.
In addition to to creating and teaching this program, I encouraged community engagement with the program and connected students with the world outside them in positive ways, by:
- Encouraging community engagement, service, and education by organizing and leading service tours at local community gardens
- Promoting well-being and environmental appreciation by organizing and leading outdoor recreation/hiking trips
- Increasing students' awareness of contemporary and working photographers by organizing and coordinating volunteer guest speakers
- Providing hands-on teaching experience to college students by recruiting, supervising, and mentoring before and during program
- Promoting program by designing, building, and launching website
- Encouraging community participation by organizing and scheduling annual professional gallery exhibit at Newspace Center for Photography
- Acquiring fiscal sponsorship with non-profit status and networking to secure monetary and in-kind community support from companies such as Wieden+Kennedy

Taught students advanced editing techniques, building on previous Photoshop experience. Encouraged a collaborative environment by structuring lessons in teams and allowing students to run demonstrations facilitated by me. Designed editing and composite projects that allowed students to apply learned knowledge and skills while still encouraging them to exercise individual creativity. The course not only covered technical problems with an emphasis on innovative solutions, but also guided students in concept and narrative development supported by a mastering of aesthetics with a strong emphasis on the intent of the work.
